You bet your sweet ash

Today in Baton Rouge, Louisiana ash began to fall from the sky and the sweet smell of sugarcane fields drifted to my side of the Mississippi. Each year during the sugarcane harvest, the remnants of the sugarcane stalks are burned off. The fields have been burning for a few weeks, but with the winds coming out of the west the past few days, the sweet smell has made its way over. This is a sign for me that winter is truly upon us.

I do so love living in Louisiana.
