Sometimes I’m in a hurry to get out the door for a flight that every now and again I’ll forget a few essential toiletries, such as my facial cream or other nicety. Most hotels will provide these items, but not all provide quality amenities. In fact, one amenity that really irks me is the conditioning shampoo that comes in one bottle. This particular product is a waste of money and usually will leave my hair frizzy and tangled. At least now I know if I forget a few items and I’m flying Virgin America, I won’t have to waste precious time in my destination by hunting down a drugstore.
Yes To Inc. and Virgin America have partnered to introduce the How Could I Forget Kit, a collection of travel essentials that are perfect for travelers who forgot to pack toiletries or lost them to airport security.
The How Could I Forget Kit contains Yes To Carrots’ Pampering Carrot Juice Shampoo, Pampering Hair Mud Conditioner, Carrot Rich Shower Gel, Carrot Body Moisturizing Lotion, along with a Mint Lip Butter, a Night Moisturizing Cream sample, a pack of peppermint VerMints and a handy plastic bag, all neatly housed in a chic Yes To & Virgin America zipper toiletry bag.
Yes to Carrots™ How Could I Forget Kit retails for $10 and is available on all domestic Virgin America flights.
One lucky reader has the chance to win one of these travel kits. Just leave a comment about a time during your travels where you’ve forgotten a must-have item and what you did to remedy the situation. Contest ends Tuesday October 13, 2009 at 11:59 PM CST. One entry per email address. Winner will be announced sometime the following day in an update to this post. US entries only please. Thanks to Virgin America for sponsoring this giveaway prize.
Winner Update: Congrats to Brittney (Comment 20)!

I have to give Kudos to Virgin America for choosing a healthier, greener cosmetic company to partner with instead! So many of the toiletry items that are given away are so smelly you can’ t use them, and really unhealthy for you, too. Thanks for the forsight to do something healthy for your travellers!
I’m not a candidate (not US resident) but it is good to see a more practical kit than some I’ve seen when I’ve forgotten something. Good hotels have become more important in this area with the bizarre restrictions and seemingly arbitrary rules on what can be carted onto an aircraft (and what constitutes a liquid etc).
Hey this is a great set! Some good green products! Glad the airlines care about something besides their own pockets!
I once forgot my contact case and had to put my contact lenses in two very small glasses of water covered with tissue paper!
a great gift for my wife
I have been very fortunate to have never forgotten a necessity (yet)! I love the Yes to Carrots line of products!
i forgot shampoo and had to use bar soap .
I forgot my toothbrush and went to the front desk and they gave me one.
once i forgot my facial moisturizer and decided that sunscreen would be a better moisturizer than the yucky hotel hand lotion.
Didn’t bring toothpaste once, and had to have my friend, who works in an orthodontist’s office, bring me some stuff they use to clean people’s teeth with in the office. At least I could do that or I’d have been in big trouble. I have to use a special toothpaste because of my allergies.
What a great thing. I love the Yes to Carrots line of products and would be very willing to buy them if I had forgot my toiletries.
I forgot my favorite brush. I freaked out and for a few days had to use a comb which is hard with all my hair but I finally found a replacement.
I forgot my toothbrush cover, and had to use a baggie to cover it.
Coudn’t agree more about the crappy conditioner! The kits are a great idea. Yet I have no idea why I want carrot shampoo! I might eat it instead if I were stuck on the tarmack!
I left my contact solution when we went on a cruise, and I had to get by with tap water until we came into port!
I was on my way overseas (to london…) when I realized that I had forgot my whole cosmetic case on the bathroom counter!! It was horrible. I did manage to piece together something so that I didn’t look like death warmed over but it was touch-and-go for a while! Good thing it was a sightseeing venture and not a business deal. I would have had to have it all air-mailed!!
I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten anything essential. I’m a list maker and a bit obsessive about things like that.
The item I forget the most is my contact lens case and contact lens solution (that is small enough so it won’t be tossed at the airport). I usually end up using drinking cups and borrowing someone’s solution for a few days.
I always forget ladies supplies on trips and have to find a drug store!!!
Thanks for entering me! Great Contest!

I always seem to forget either shampoo, conditioner or contact solution. Most recently it was contact solution. Luckily there was a walgreens near by and I went there and bought some.
I forgot my cell phone on my last trip home. I had to talk to people via IM and Twitter update. LOL
I was sent ot an out of town meeting at the last minute. I ran home after work and grabbed the bag I USUALLY have all ready to go. Plane got in later that evening and as I unpacked at the hotel I realized that I forgot to repack any panties!! So I hand washed the ones I had and luckily they were dry by morning. Next day I used my lunch to find a mall!!!
On a trip I forgot to pack my camera. I had to rely on the disposible kind.
I forgot to pack my hairbrush on my last trip.
My hair was a wreck until I was able to find a local walgreens and get a brush!
Hubby makes sure we never forget anything, but on his last trip he forgot his cell phone during a layover in Philadelphia! He spent weeks trying to track it down, calling the hotel, the cab and even the airline but no-one had seen it.
Three months later, he found it in the very bottom of his bag. His face was so red you could grill on it!
I once forgot to bring moisturizing facial lotion with me, so I stopped by a department store for samples. The lady was so nice! I also received samples to make up for my confiscated perfume atomizer that I’d missed while checking out my purse pre-flight.
I had my $40 bottle of moisturizer confiscated at the airport because it was over the 3oz limit. I argued b/c it was a 5oz bottle and it was less than half full. The TSA agent told me it wasn’t his job to do math.
Recently I was on a 2 week business trip and I arrived to find that I’d forgotten my deodorant. I asked the front desk for one, and they brought out a box that turned out to only have Lady Speed Stick (which was not good since I’m a guy). Needless to say I smelled LOVELY for a week, until they got a new shipment of Men’s Speed Stick in

The last time I went abroad, Air Canada managed to not load an entire flight’s worth of bags and took their time figuring how to fix it, so I was missing a lot for a week. I replaced some of my things, but, as an impoverished grad student, I had to improvise: face wash as body soap, hand lotion as conditioner and leave-in conditioner, lip stain as blush, bar soap to hand-wash clothes, pashmina as a blanket, iPod alarm as an alarm clock, etc. I was kind of a wreck, but I had an amazing time, though.
Once while I was traveling abroad, United lost my luggage and I didn’t have my toiletries the entire time I was out of the country. I had to re-buy everything — toothbrush, lotion, etc. A kit like this would be great to put in a carry-on bag!
Once when we were traveling my husband left the shampoo in the motel room. When we stopped at the motel that night, we had to go find a Walmart’s so we could buy more.
I went to Dallas, Texas for a Mary Kay Cosmetics Seminar and forgot my toothbrush. Luckily I was able to buy one in the Fairmont hotel gift shop!

Oh, the stories of forgotten items.
The bra incident: I went to the gym for a workout before my two-day work trip. Getting ready in the locker room I realized I had forgotten a bra. It was either go sans under my silk top, or put the post-workout sweat sports bra BACK on. In the end, the sweaty black sports bra won out. Super classy under my button-up blouse. And since I didn’t have spray, I had to use my roll-on perfume to freshen the sweaty thing up. Let’s just say it wasn’t the most professional look (or smell) of my career.
I forgot my curling iron one time. My husband ran to a nearby drugstore and bought me a replacement. I now keep that one in my bag in case I forget again.
I forgot my makeup kit on a trip recently and what I did was go to a local store and buy some trial size products to get me through!

Once I forgot my whole toiletry bag for a 2 week trip. I ended up having to shell out the money and buy all new.

I forgot my lip balm on a recent trip. I HAVE to have lip balm with me at all times and especially during a flight since the air gets so dry. I caved and forked out about $5 at the airport to buy one! Compared to what I spent, the Yes to Carrots How Could I Forget Kit is a GREAT deal! Thanks for holding your contest.
the only thing ive ever really forgotten was my toothbrush, luckily the hotel had some
For some reason, I always forget a brush when traveling. I have short, straight hair, so when I’m at home, it tends not to matter because it doesn’t really get messed up. But inevitably, whenever I go on a trip, I wake up with completely sproingy/crunched-in-crazy places hair… If I can’t find a comb or brush nearby, I just have to hope that I have enough time to wash and blow-dry it before I have to be somewhere!

Once I forgot my moisturizer and it was a really dry plane flight. I had tint-free lip balm so I made do with that in a few choice dry spots.

So I was on my way from San Francisco to Washington DC for a big meeting. I had checked and checked again. I had everything. I like to come in the day before a big meeting and as I was done with the check-in at my hotel and started unpacking I realized I had forgotten my suit. OMG!!! I about died. I found out the stores didn’t open until 10am the next morning and my meeting was at 9am. The next morning I called the client, told them my flight had run late (I know… Cheap trick) and waited for the stores to open. Then ran in, grabbed a suit, threw it on in the dressing room, ripped off the tags, paid (the cashier was starring a bit but I had no time to explain), and ran to my rental car with a bag full of my regular clothes and a blushed face from rushing so much. The client was so kind and understanding (they know United runs late all the time)
and ohhh…. did I mention I landed the contract AND made my company pay for the new suit? SCORE!!!
I arrived in Las Vegas without a toothbrush & toothpaste which was graciously provided by the Flamingo
i forgot my toothbrush but as soon as i mentioned it my wonderful husband was out the door to buy me another one!
I forgot my toothbrush. The hotel gave me one and it had a cute little toothpaste with the ttohbrush.
I didn’t pack the right clothes for the trip. I had to go to the department store to shop for clothes. Though my baggage got heavier, I can’t complain. I still wear them from time to time!
That is awesome!
When I was flying while pregnant, I almost cried when they made me throw away my water bottle at security. I was so thirsty. For like 4 hours.
My most recent experience of being without was when I went to Vietnam about a month ago. I got an unexpected visit from Aunt Flo, and I was also having severe engorgement from weaning my baby (who was in another country). I ended up buying cabbage leaves from a street vendor to put in my bra. It worked. I needed a C cup cabbage.
I forgot my contact lens solution and had to run to the store to get some
i forgot my contact lens solution and had to store them in plain water – it was very uncomfortable and my cotacts were cloudy the whole trip.
On an important trip I lost my cell phone charger! I was panicked but I shut off my phone to save the little battery left and used my companion’s.
On one trip I forgot my contact lens cleaner but luckily I found a store near my hotel to get more
I forgot my baggie of liquid supplies at the security check point. I had to make due with a shot size hotel bottle of shampoo for my long hair for 3 days, so I just wore it up a lot!
I forgot my razor to shave my legs and had to do with not shaving them.
I forgot the kids toothbrushes recently. We made the kids brush with their fingers.
I forgot my lotion once and I cant get dressed after a shower without it. So I had to hols out till I cold get to a store to purchase more. Never again. I carry extra in my car now.
i once forgot my blow dryer on a trip to maine so i had to go and buy one or my hair looks like a grizzly BEAST
I forgot my digital camera at home and I simply bought a disposable one.
I once forgot my asthma inhaler of all things, I was changing over my purse to a carry on bag and it got left out in the shuffle. I had to call my dr. to refill it at a local pharmacy since I figured it was better to be safe than sorry, but it was definitely a pain
When we traveled to my brother’s wedding I forgot my deodorant. It was June in Georgia. There was no way around it, I had to send my husband down to buy an overpriced stick from the hotel “pantry.”
I somehow forgot my glasses and was talking about it on the plane to my daughter, when a lady in front of me told me she
had an extra cheap pair with her,she would give me and I
was so excited luckily I could see out of them.I did clean them off
first:)
i have forgotten my camera and purchased a disposable camera.
When I travel and get a headache, you can bet that I haven’t packed any type of pain reliever. I either have to try to find a drug store or go buy some overprices packet in the hotel gift shop. Now, at least half the time, I’ll remember to pack something.
I forgot my toothbrush so my husband was going to go out and get one. They ended up giving him some at the help desk at the hotel we were staying at which was nice!
I forgot toothpaste. I had to go the gift shop in the hotel amd buy a very expensive travel size.
I have forgotten my toothbrush many times.
