It always seems to be either feast or famine in the writing industry. There are lean times when I’m not getting any assignments at all, and fat times when I have to turn down some fabulous projects.
This year (2011) I made an effort to spend more quality time with my family and to take them along with me on my travels. I also took on less speaking engagements because I found myself talking more about travel blogging in 2010 than actually traveling. This, in itself, is a tragedy.
2012 is just around the bend and already the requests to present at conferences are on the table, with some of the events being as late as October and November next year. I also have a some private social media consulting meetings on my books for 2012, which help replenish my personal travel fund, because, let’s face it, even sponsored media events end up costing money when it’s all said and done.
Since it looks like I’ll still be hanging around this planet in 2012, I’ve also decided to check the rest of the things off of my Life To Do List. I still want to see the Northern Lights and visit Scotland. I still have two books to finish. I’d also like to be in a movie and have my own television show. I want to be in a music video and make people laugh. It might sound crazy to some of you, but based off my past track record of unbelievable things happening in my life, I’m pretty confident I can do most, if not all of those things, as long as Mr. Miyagi continues to behave himself. Bottom line: I’m nuts.
I also want to provide a few more amazing travel experiences for my kids. My son is already a Junior in high school and my daughter will be entering her freshman year in high school next year. They are growing up. Fast.
To speak or not to speak, that is the question.
What would you do?
