Writers in the New York and Los Angeles areas have access and get invitations to so many media events. A few months back I was invited to attend the eforea: spa at Hilton launch event in Short Hills, NJ, which is just a hop and a skip from New York City, but a loooong way from Louisiana. It was tons of fun to travel, dress up, and get the star media treatment, all while learning about a new spa product introduced to Hilton Hotels and Resorts all around the world.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised from the moment I stepped off the plane in Newark. Since everyone else was being transported via luxury rides from New York City, Hilton provided me with a similar, albeit more private, experience. When I sat in the backseat of the luxury SUV, I had a welcome gift of snacks for the ride, along with an introductory video of with a background of the eforea: spa at Hilton concept.I arrived at Hilton Short Hills and was able to observe the event preparations in progress for the evening’s event. I checked in and was enchanted by the decor of my room. Since I knew it would be a long night, I went in search of an appetizer to satisfy my hunger after a long day in the air. The hotel bar/dining area was hopping, with models and businessmen going over the details for the evening.
Since this was an evening event and the dress requirements were cocktail chic, I dressed as I would for an event being held in Louisiana. When I walked into the media area, I was surprised to see the wide array of clothing choice by the New York area media. In my mind, I had this impression that everyone wore the height of fashion. Most of them just stared at me in curiosity, maybe it was because I had flesh on my bones or something. I was singing in my head, “One of these things is not like the other…”Fortunately, a nice lady who was an editor at a magazine sat down and joined me for a cocktail. We ended up chatting as we toured the spa.
The spa tour was a nice way to get introduced to the product, similar to having a coffee with a guy before going on a real date. After the spa tour, one of my new friends and I went to take part in the Blue Carpet (Hilton’s version of a red carpet.) Since all the other media people were busy drinking cocktails, we had our own media area. I had an amazing conversation with the security guy and we chatted about Louisiana while I had an unobstructed view of the step and repeat.
Soon the fashion show and private concert was about to begin. I walked into the ballroom to find a mad crush of people vying for their spot near the stage. Fortunately, a seat was reserved for me in the media area and my new BFF (the security guy) parted the sea of people for me so that I could get to my prime viewing spot. The fashion show was pretty cool, but didn’t showcase anything real people could wear. It was all about the artistic expression of clothing design with an amazing cause – to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The evening closed with a fabulous mini concert by Seal. Yes. The Seal with the extraordinary vocal chords. A guy across the stage from me recorded this snippet of Seal singing at the Hilton event.
I had an unbelievable time, thanks to Hilton Hotels and Resorts. The introduction to eforea: spa at Hilton amazed me and I can’t wait to experience the treatments of eforea: spa at Hilton, which can be found at more and more Hilton properties around the globe.
