Karl Pilkington is An Idiot Abroad. His travel adventures are a combination of the hilarious, the authentic, and unapologetic. Karl is not a savvy world traveler and says the first thing that enters his mind. I don’t know how Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant managed to talk Karl into this travel experience, but it is being marketed as a practical joke turned social experiment. I don’t love every moment of the show, because some of the bits just seem so wrong, but overall, it totally works. Karl Pilkington has a new fan – me.
An Idiot Abroad airs on Saturday nights and can be found in the US on Science Channel. You can follow Karl’s uncomfortable journey to see the Seven Wonders of the World from your living room. The series has just been slated for a second season. You can follow @An_Idiot_Abroad on Twitter, but it isn’t a very social account. I guess Karl is too busy recovering from the injuries and illnesses sustained during his travels.
An Idiot Abroad is brilliant. If you took the worst press junket stories from professional travel writers and some of the most amazing, and rolled it into one show, you have An Idiot Abroad. It’s raw travel entertainment.
