How to Start a Travel Blog

A few years ago I published “The Definitive Guide to Travel Writing”. It included information on everything I had found online and experiences I learned from through my travel writing journey. While many of the same information still holds true, there’s also been a renaissance of travel writing through the online media of blogging. I get tons of questions about how to be a travel writer and how to start a blog. I’ll start by telling you I’M NO EXPERT in social media. All I can do is share my personal experiences and help you learn from the mistakes I made.

This information is available for free, at no charge, because that’s how I roll. I’ve been refelecting on how I got to this point in my own journey, and just wanted to share what I know. Hopefully, you might find something useful that helps you in your own travel writing and blogging journey. Some of these posts are based on presentations I’ve given at travel industry conferences. Other posts were inspired by questions or conversations with those interested in dipping their toes into travel writing. The biggest tip I can give you is to LEARN HOW TO WRITE. Enroll in a community writing course, or at the least, purchase a book on how to write a proper story. Anyone can start a blog, but not everyone can write entertaining verse.

I also highly suggest reading everything you can find online and making informed decisions before spending any money on travel writing and blogging books and courses. Are there resources you know about that might help those with their travel writing and blogging journey? Feel free to leave a relevant link in the comments. The information must be FREE and I will delete links that lead to paid content or sales for ebooks.

Best of luck in the travel industry and please let me know how you fare in this big, online world.
