San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California and the 12th most populous city in the United States with several sights, attracting more visitors to this city every year. For those who are planning to visit San Francisco, whether venturing out solo or with a group of ten, San Francisco will prove to be a great place to vacation, with plenty of good eats and sights to see — regardless of your budget.
For instance, the Fisherman’s Wharf is a great place to walk around and explore. This nautical sight has several restaurants, family friendly attractions and plenty of events to plan a vacation around. Another great idea is to walk up the famous hills. If you have kids, you can make a game out of who can walk the farthest. You get your exercise and a fun family activity in one spot.
To get around the city, the transit system in San Francisco includes buses, historic streetcars (trolleys) and a limited subway system with a fare of $1.50 and the cable cars fares will cost you $5.00. Try taking a trolley ride around the city and stop by the Trolley Museum to find out about its history in San Francisco, one frequent traveler recommends.
If you’re more of a walker, San Francisco has evening walking tours that are a great way for you to explore and see the city. Some neighborhoods to visit on foot include: China Town, Mission, SOMA, South Park and Union Square to name a few. Another great place to visit is the University of California Berkeley. The campus is gorgeous with plenty of gift shops and eateries that are reasonably priced.
San Francisco also has many museums, including the Cartoon Art Museum and the Asia de Young Museum. A great show to see in San Francisco is the Beach Blanket Babylon Show, the longest running musical revue in theatre history. If you are in the mood to shop, head over to Gumps and check out the local luxury furniture and jewelry they have. If you have more room in the budget, take a boat tour of the famous prison, Alcatraz. The ride is about $26 per person and you’ll explore the old prison while listening to audio information about its history.
If you’re visiting San Francisco as a couple, a traveler recommends participating in a wine tour. Some of the top recommended tours include: Sonoma Valley Wine Tour ($6 for 6 tastes), Tin Barn Winery ($6 for 6 tastes), and Nicholson Farms Winery ($10 for 6 tastes). Although Nicholson Farms was the most expensive, it was also the most beautiful of the three.
For places to eat, San Francisco has a myriad of options. There are romantic places like BIX and Farallon to really fun places like Hook & Anchor if you want great seafood and a nice beer or glass of wine. Check out the nearly 900 restaurants in the SF Bay Area on Web sites like opentable.com.
So next time you are planning a vacation, think about traveling to San Francisco to check out all of these great sites!
